Personnel:  Graham Parker - trombone,  Doug Burnley - cornet,  John Charles - clarinet & leader,

Tom Russell - banjo,  Phil Pye - drums,  Phil Carney - bass,  John Floyd - piano.

I played cornet with the "Excelsior Jazz Band" in Toronto,Ontario, from 1977 to 1980. Toronto was enjoying a resurgence in traditional & dixieland jazz during the late 70's and at least 10 bands were playing on a regular basis.

The Excelsior was very much in the New Orleans trad style, It appeared on the "Peter Appleyard" television show twice, was featured in the 1st & 2nd Toronto "Mardi Gras", the Ontario Place Jazz Festival and played Sat & Sun afternoons at the popular "Ports of Call" in downtown Toronto.

( Sugar Blues sound clip recorded at Toronto, Ont. 1978 - for the "Peter Appleyard" TV show. )
